"Matilda" Things To Do in San Francisco!

Matilda's Magical Adventures!

Books, Books, Books! One of Matilda's favorite things to do is to read, read, read! When was the last time you've popped open a book or been inside a bookstore? Don't remember? Well, head on down to Ally Cat Books and Gallery on 3036 24th St. Not only is there a wide selection of tantalizing books, but there is a gallery with beautiful artwork to excite your creativity and broaden your mind.

The Power of Knowledge. A central theme of the show is the power to change your own life through learning and knowledge. And what better place to take the family than The Exploratorium at Pier 15! With over 600 mind-opening exhibits The Exploratorium is an eye opening, playful place to explore how our world works. It will ignite your curiosity and inspire your creativity - just like Matilda.

Give Flight To The Flightless. In the movie adaptation Matilda saves a classmate with her magical powers by flying her around the schoolyard and landing her safely. Ever wanted to fly? Bounce over to the Presidio and visit House of Air - San Francisco's premiere trampoline park. With conjoined trampolines, a trampoline dodge ball court, and film service cafe, House of Air will make you feel like a kid again - and the kids will like it too. ;)

A Truly Magical Day. Pier 39 is filled to the brim with exciting and creative things for the whole family. Pier 39 hosts fun activities including Magowan's Infinite Mirror Maze, SF Carousel, musical stairs, street performers and the mystical Houdini's Magic Shop. And don't forget all the learning to be had! The Aquarium and Sea Lion Center are wonderful spots for learning and fun!

Ms. Honey's Sweet Life: In the movie version of Matilda, Ms. Honey lives in a tiny cottage surrounded by beautiful flowers. There are two spots you have to hit for serene floral surroundings located in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. The Dutch Windmill at the north end of the park hosts the beautiful Queen Wilhelmina Tulip Garden. Golden Gate Park also includes the Conservatory of Flowers. A beautiful botanical wonder, filled with exotic and rare flowers of all kind.

In the movie Ms. Honey's long-gone father had a tin of chocolates that brought back fond memories for the schoolteacher. Matilda then uses her powers to retrieve them from the evil Ms.Trunchbull. If you are looking for truly magical chocolate tasting experience then visit Chocolatier Blue. This astounding sweet shop is right out of a fairy tale with confections like Sage Honey and Peanut Butter and Strawberry. This delectable shop at 904 Valencia St is a must visit. And, of course, there's always Ghirardelli Square for amazing chocolate treats!

What to watch for from Nick: For all those who love the movie, but haven't had the pleasure of seeing the show - be aware. Don't expect to see a copy of the movie version. The main theme and story are essentially the same, but there are add characters and events that are not part of the movie. Just be ready to open your mind and hearts to the amazing retelling of this classic tale.

What to watch for from Linda: Watch for Peter Darling's Tony-nominated, inventive choreography that truly buttresses the musical's enchanting numbers. Spoiler alert: Flying kids and mini-trampolines are featured elements! Though Tim Minchin's score skews toward the minor and the macabre, it sounds deliciously as if Roald Dahl (book author) had written it himself.

Tagline: "Bambinatum est Maggitum," or "Children are maggots."
