BroadwayWorld's High School Center is proud to showcase high school performance programs around the country in our weekly feature of 'High School in the Spotlight'.
Under the leadership of James Shelby (director/teacher) and Kristen Lo (technical theatre director / teacher), the Gunn theatre program includes:
Curriculum
The theatre curriculum is composed of a comprehensive, four year sequence of theatre courses, an interdisciplinary class (with English department) "Shakespeare in Performance" and a one year stage tech class. Classroom and curriculum enrichment includes guest lecturers, field trips, visiting theatre professionals and workshops such as the Young Playwrights Project.
Shows
Gunn students stage three major productions, Fall, Spring and One Acts each year, and occasional staged readings.
Stage auditions and tech/ crew roles are open to all Gunn students. Subscribe to our "Cast" and / or "Crew" announcements list to receive up to date information on the latest opportunities regarding shows.
Special Events
- Gunn-Paly Oregon Shakespeare Festival Trip
- Local theatre field trips.
Past trips have included
Anton Chekov's "Three Sisters" at Berkeley Rep,
Harold Pinter's "The Homecoming" at American Conservatory Theatre (A.C.T.), San Francisco and various productions at other local theatre companies.
