‘Sisters, Spirit and Songs' is a three-day musical and theater arts event featuring Las Mujeres de El Teatro Campesino being performed on March 26, 27 and 28 at El Teatro Campesino in San Juan Bautista.
The performance piece is a collection of collaborative and individual acts threaded together with the theme of celebrating women's achievements in the performing arts. The celebration takes place during the culmination of the Spring Equinox as a way to honor all women past, present and future.
The event features original music, monologues and choreography created and performed by the women of El Teatro Campesino.
‘Sisters, Spirit and Songs' purpose is to use music and movement to connect with spirit to empower women. Based on the belief that music is intrinsic to the human soul and that the creation of music is a unique human characteristic, this performance arts piece illustrates that every being on the planet already possesses the tools to create their own unique music to connect with their true spirit.
"It is our mission as female performers to mentor and outreach to women by creating a musical performance piece that tells our stories. We are mothers, sisters, lovers-we are spirit and music. It is our intention to use the creation of this piece to connect with our culture and history and to promote peace and foster community," said Stephanie Woehrmann, ‘Sisters' co-director.
Las Mujeres de El Teatro Campesino collectively created ‘Sisters, Spirit and Songs' specifically to recognize and honor the rich panorama of personal and collective female milestones and to acknowledge and promote the ideas of women as Heroines, Healers and Goddesses by using music, lyrics, dance and poetry to illustrate these concepts.
‘Sisters, Spirit and Songs' will be performed at El Teatro Campesino Playhouse on March 26 and 27 at 8pm and on March 28 at 2pm.
