Death in Venice by Thomas Mann, directed and performed by Giles Havergal, runs at the ACT Zeum Theatre now through September 24, with a press opening September 9.
"Death in Venice reveals what happens to an aging writer when he develops as obsessive love for an innocent young man. The more the writer pursues his ideal, the more alive he feels—but inside he begins to crumble, like the decaying city of Venice itself," states press notes, "Longtime ACT favorite Giles Havergal performs his riveting adaptation of Thomas Mann's controversial 1912 novella, which has been an audience favorite internationally and off-Broadway. ACT's West Coast premiere of Death in Venice is produced in association with San Francisco's Theatre Rhinoceros, the world's oldest continuously producing professional queer theater."
Tickets: $20–$25 can be purchased online at www.act-sf.org or by calling the box office at 415 777-2800.
The ACT Zeum Theatre is located at Yerba Buena Gardens, 221 Fourth St., San Francisco, CA 94103.
