California Shakespeare Theater has announced the appointment of Clive Worsley to the post of Director of Artistic Learning. Cal Shakes' Artistic Learning (AL) programs serve diverse students throughout the Bay Area through school residencies, Student Discovery Matinees, summer theater conservatories, and professional development for classroom teachers and teaching artists.
About his appointment, Worsley commented: "It has been my pleasure to serve as a Cal Shakes Teaching Artist for more than a decade. As a passionate advocate for the transformative power of Arts Education, I look forward to expanding my role within the company to ensure the integration of the arts into schools as a permanent and valued part of the educational process for all students."
"Susie Falk, the entire board, and I are thrilled and honored to have someone with as much experience in and passion for arts education as Clive to lead our Artistic Learning efforts," said Artistic Director Jonathan Moscone. "Clive is a tireless advocate for the role of the arts in the lives of young people, and I look forward to working with him to increase our impact in a broadening diversity of communities."
2013 marks Clive's 11th year as a teaching artist for Cal Shakes' Artistic Learning programs. He was instrumental in developing some of the first in-school residency programs, collaborating with classroom teachers to create integrated arts curriculum. He helped to initiate and is moderator of the popular Student Matinee program, and has taught all age levels in Cal Shakes' Summer Shakespeare Conservatories. Clive has served as Artistic Director of Town Hall Theatre in Lafayette since 2008, where he has cultivated greater integration of the Main Stage and Educational Programs, including a shadow cast program for teen actors. Under his direction, Town Hall built new community partnerships, achieved financial solvency and received numerous Shellie Awards. He is currently an Artistic Associate with TheatreFirst, where he was most recently featured in Stones in His Pockets. As an award-winning actor he has appeared on many Bay Area stages including Cal Shakes, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, TheatreWorks, Marin Theatre Company, Magic Theatre, Center Rep, Shotgun Players, and many others.
