Clay David's professional career in theatre arts, from London, Broadway, Off-Broadway, regional theatre, national tours to educational and community theatre, has been recognized in the Bay Area as the "villain, rogue and libertine" of musical theatre. His solo cabaret, VILLAINS AND VIXENS at Feinstein's at The Nikko, celebrates the misunderstood transgressors of classic, pop, R & B and musical theatre. Clay David grins, "It's evil-licious!"
David muses with an impish smile, "My early theatre career was filled with comedic roles, but suddenly there was a shift. It began in Shakespeare companies. When I turned 40, I was suddenly cast as despicable characters. I guess being a Scorpio hailing from the Cajun bayous, I am pretty fearless in diving into the dark side." Shakespeare's Iago, Don John and Angelo fused into Roat (Wait Until Dark), and Teddy (When You Coming Back Red Ryder). Musical theatre then followed: Dentist (Little Shop of Horrors), Lord Farquaad (Shrek The Musical), Frollo (Hunchback of Notre Dame), Billie Sykes (Oliver), Inspector Javert (Les Misérables), Officer (Dialogue of the Carmelites), Emcee (Cabaret), Jeffries (Speakeasy, SF) and Preacher (Violet)."
Award winning music, award winning singers, an eclectic mix of delightful music, VILLAINS AND VIXENS is sure to sell out quickly.
