Cinnabar Theater presents "Don Giovanni" March 23 - April 15, 2012. Music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart / Libretto by Lorenzo da Ponte. Sung in English. Musical direction by Mary Chun. Directed by Elly Lichenstein.
Mozart's "Don Giovanni" combines comedy, irony, dark dramatic undercurrents and supernatural powers with defining and magnificent music as it recounts the last day in the life of the infamous, irresistible anti-hero.
Despite his beguiling and seductive persona, the young and handsome nobleman Don Giovanni (Don Juan), is an arrogant, reprehensible and relentless womanizing cad in selfish pursuit of his conquests. When offered the chance to repent in the face of his own damnation, his unflinching defiance determines his fate.
"Don Giovanni," consider among Mozart's most important works, premiered with acclaim in October 1787 in Prague and went on to greater success when presented in Vienna in 1788. "Don Giovanni" is regarded as a mainstay of the modern operatic repertoire.
