Announced in early September, San Leandro based Curtain Call Performing Arts, INC. (CCPA), and California Conservatory Theatre (CCT), merged and joined forces with a shared vision to continue to provide exceptional live theatre to San Leandro and the greater San Francisco Bay Area. After a summer of negotiations the two companies have moved forward under the CCPA name.
Now the curtain is ready to rise on the 2012/2013 season with “A Toast to the Arts,” fund raiser event at The Vine, Wine and Tapas, in downtown San Leandro on Sunday, October 28, 2012 from 3PM-7PM. Guest hosted by San Leandro Mayor Stephen Cassidy, the all-inclusive event will feature wine, tapas, live performances, a silent auction, and the opportunity to purchase season tickets and donate to the company’s season or CCT venue refurbishment campaign. Phase one of the refurbishment is already in progress and will transform the venue into a black box theatre, provide a new coat of interior paint, and transform the lobby area to a modern art gallery look.
“This event brings a new level of excitement to the launch of our season. We’re thrilled to have Mayor Cassidy join us, and we have a great mix of live performances, wine, and delicious tapas from The Vine. Guests will have the opportunity to support local arts while enjoying a Sunday afternoon in style,” said David Ojakian, Curtain Call’s marketing manager, and ‘Toast to the Arts’ event chair.
Ensuring that CCT’s rich history and quality performing arts productions since 1978 continued, was central to the discussions of merging companies. With this at the center of the collaboration, CCPA now enters its largest season and season ticket purchases continue at a steady pace. In addition, Curtain Call’s arts education offerings and “Gift of Broadway” free assembly program for local K-8th grade students will continue to provide exclusive services to the community.
CCPA, now in production on the annual holiday musical favorite, “A Christmas Carol,” continues the momentum from this summer’s critically acclaimed “Cinderella,” which BroadwayWorld.com’s Linda Hodges said the “…decision to ratchet up the energy by going steampunk, lift(ed) this production into the stratosphere…”
The 2012/2013 CCPA season will include six (6) productions featuring musicals, stage plays, and choral concerts with performances at the current CCT site and San Leandro Performing Arts Center.
