CCCT is set to present this 1987 off-Broadway play written by Robert Harling. Steel Magnolias subsequently became a smash film in 1989 and was produced on Broadway in 2005.
Full of Southern charm and lots of laughs, the play manages to touch deeply as six distinctly different women aggravate and infuriate, while supporting and loving one another through life's tricky cycle of birth, marriage and death. They find surprising common ground in Truvy's beauty salon in Louisiana, the setting for this story.
Director Joel Roster feels that Truvy sums it up when she says, "Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion." He goes on to say, "The most wonderful thing about this play (and any good play) is that the characters are in fact flawed. No one is perfect, and no one is unbreakable."
The set for Steel Magnolias is designed by Henry Perkins and Derrick Silva and built by Henry Perkins. Lighting design is by Aaron Benn and sound is by Blair Collins. Anida Weyl is the costume designer and props are by Matt Decker. Derrick Silva is the Producer.
Cast includes: Theresa Adams, Beth Chastain, Ann Kendrick, Clair Nail, Lauren Rosi and Jade Shojaee
