Household objects go flying, witty barbs are exchanged, and scathing insults ensue when Bus Barn Stage Company opens Noel Coward's favorite comedy of bad manners, PRIVATE LIVES, opening January 29 at Bus Barn Theatre. Known as one of the most flippant plays ever written, this classic comedy of bad manners runs through February 20 at the Los Altos venue.
On adjacent patios in a honeymoon hotel, Elyot and Amanda meet by chance after marrying their new spouses. The still smoldering embers of their tempestuous marriage spark flames as banter flies and hilarity follows. New partners are abandoned, old partners are reunited, and tempers spiral out of control in this embodiment of the perfect battle of the sexes. Coward's PRIVATE LIVES is a sophisticated romance that shocked audiences in 1930 but remains one of the favorites of Noel Coward fans.
The Bus Barn Stage Company production of PRIVATE LIVES, set in a beautiful art nouveau apartment designed by Ron Gasparinetti, features former Los Altos residents Tom Gough and Halsey Varady in the roles of Elyot and his new wife, Sibyl. Diahanna Davidson takes on the part of Elyot's first wife, Amanda, while John Edward Romano portrays Amanda's new husband, Victor. Beth Boulay plays Louise, the cantankerous French maid. PRIVATE LIVES is directed by Los Altos actor and director Linda Piccone.
