The epic musical LES MISERABLES runs from March 6th through 22nd at the historic Fox Theatre in Redwood City (2215 Broadway Street, Redwood City, CA) and tonight, March 28th through April 5th at the Golden State Theatre in Monterey (417 Alvarado Street, Monterey, CA).

Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, LES MISERABLES is an unforgettable story of heartbreak, passion, and the resilience of the human spirit, that has become one of the most celebrated musicals in theatrical history. It is the story of Jean Valjean and his quest for redemption after serving nineteen years in jail for having stolen a loaf of bread for his sister's starving child. After a gracious bishop demonstrates a tremendous act of mercy, Valjean is inspired to break his parole and start his life anew. However, he can never fully escape the foreboding of his long time adversary, Javert, who obstinately searches to recapture him. Throughout this journey, Valjean and a slew of characters are swept into a revolutionary period in France, where a group of young idealists make their last stand at a street barricade. LES MISERABLES features a timeless score and memorable songs, "I Dreamed A Dream," "Bring Him Home," "One Day More," and "On My Own" and has received over 100 major theatre awards.

"Broadway By the Bay is thrilled to kick off our 50th anniversary season with this iconic musical featuring the best of the best. We are here to commemorate the songs, the memories, the moments, and the reasons why we love to go to the theatre. These stories resonate within all of us and the familiarity of their achievements is all embracing. With LES MISERABLES at the helm, it's four blockbuster, Tony-Award winning hits for a significant 50th birthday - time to celebrate!" - Amanda Folena, Artistic Director.

"What does LES MISERABLES mean to me? From a personal perspective, this show changed my life," says Associate Director, Maureen Duffey Frentz. "Having never left home, I was thrust into the touring life. I met incredible people and worked with talent beyond compare. Being removed from my safe, Bay Area theatre cocoon, I had the opportunity to see who I was as an artist. I performed in LES MISERABLES over 1000 times and I can honestly say, I have never grown weary of this piece. It has a power over me that I can't quite describe. Having seen the show presented locally several times, I am looking forward to my collaboration with BBBay so that we can tell this story the way it should be told."

Maureen Duffey Frentz is a Bay Area native having performed in countless local theatres in Alameda, Piedmont, Berkeley, San Anselmo, El Cerrito, Concord and Walnut Creek with starring roles in Dames At Sea, Baby, Mack and Mabel, Guys and Dolls, Candide, A Christmas Carol, Oklahoma, Annie Get Your Gun, A Chorus Line, Joseph/Dreamcoat and Sweet Charityto name a few. As a member of Actor's Equity, she appeared as Belle Poitrine in Little Me and The Blonde in Gunmetal Blues both for CitiArts Concord. She performed in both the Bus and Truck tour as well as the San Francisco company from 1989 - 1993, understudying the roles of Eponine and Cosette.
