Producer Jo Schuman Silver, The Steve Silver Foundation and Beach Blanket Babylon, the world's longest running musical revue, are proud to announce the 2011 Steve Silver Foundation and Beach Blanket Babylon "Scholarship for the Arts" program. Created in 2002 as part of its commitment to the arts, the "Scholarship for the Arts" program has grown into an annual event eagerly anticipated by San Francisco Bay Area high schools and the community.

Last year's program proved, once again, to be extremely successful, with Beach Blanket Babylon receiving a record number of submissions from high school students all over the San Francisco Bay Area. Alexandria "Lexi" Viernes (Dance) from Half Moon Bay High School in Half Moon Bay performing to "I Dreamed a Dream," Marcus Thompson (Acting) from Oakland Technical High School in Oakland performing a monologue from Naomi Iizuka's Hamlet: Blood in the Brain and Rachel Davoren (Voice) from San Marin High School in Novato performing "When I Look at Your" from The Scarlet Pimpernel each walked away with $10,000 towards their college education.

High school seniors throughout the San Francisco Bay Area are asked to submit a completed entry form (available online at beachblanketbabylon.com or by calling 415-646-0984) along with a VHS tape, DVD or CD-Rom of a three-minute performance. Entries must be postmarked by Friday, April 29th. Nine finalists - three from each category - will be selected by a panel of performing arts professionals and notified on Monday, May 9th. The top three finalists in each category will perform their three-minute piece live at Club Fugazi on Monday, June 6th in front of celebrity judges and an invited audience made up of their family and friends. One winner from each category will be presented with a $10,000 check from The Steve Silver Foundation and Beach Blanket Babylon toward higher education. The "Scholarship for the Arts" is based entirely on talent; grades and financial needs are not factors.

Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon has a long-standing commitment to philanthropic efforts in the community and has been involved with numerous charities including the UCSF Cancer Center, Legal Community Against Violence, Make-a-Wish Foundation, the Child Abuse Prevention Society and AIDS Memorial Grove.
