Bay Area Musicals!, the newest non-profit theatrical organization to join the vibrant San Francisco Bay Area arts community, continues its inaugural season with the acclaimed tribal love-rock musical, Hair. This generation-defining musical tells the story of Vietnam-era youths awkwardly but exuberantly creating their own rite of passage through the confusion around them. Among them are Claude and Berger - a pair of friends battling against Claude's draft notice, and Sheila, who is in love with both of them, but her politically-active lifestyle leaves her little time to act on her feelings. Ultimately, Claude has to decide if the hippie life is for him or go to Vietnam. With themes of alienation and civil disobedience, Hair illustrates the 60s generation's search for meaning through various "be-ins," "love-ins" and protests. The winner of the 2009 Tony Award for "Best Revival of a Musical," Hair features classic hits including, "Aquarius", "Hair", "Going Down", "Easy to be Hard", "Good Morning Star Shine" and "Flesh Failures/Let the Sun Shine."

Hair will perform February 20-March 12, 2016 at San Francisco's Victoria Theatre (2961 16th Street). Performances are Thursdays and Fridays at 8 p.m. and Saturdays at 2 and 8 p.m. Press night for Hair will be Friday, February 26 at 8 p.m. Single tickets for regular performances range in price from $35-$60. Tickets for preview performances (Thursday, February 18 at 8 p.m. and Friday, February 19 at 8 p.m.) are $10. Tickets for the opening night fundraiser on Saturday, February 20 are $100 and include an opening night party with the cast immediately following the performance. All proceeds from the opening night fundraiser ticket sales will benefit future Bay Area Musical! projects and productions. Tickets are available now by calling 415-340-2207 or visiting www.bamsf.org.

Says Matthew McCoy, Bay Area Musicals! Founder and Artistic Director: "Hair has, time and time again, proven to be an iconic piece in musical theatre history. It depicts an era and movement that resonates with not only the traditional theater-going crowd but a young, new generation as well. It doesn't just cover the topic of war, the topic of sex, the topic of drugs, or the topic of love, peace or freedom. Instead it covers all of those and then more; highlighted by a stirring score that raises the rafters in any theater. Our version, directed by Bay Area favorite Jon Tracy, will strip away the fluff of peace signs and flowers and instead focus on the fight that one deals with when trying to define themselves in a world where everything is already defined for them."

Hair features a diverse cast of 12 actors, including Jeffrey Adams* (Claude), Rotimi Agbabiaka* (Hud), Tierra Allen (Suzannah), David Glazer (Ronny), Katrina McGraw (Dionne), Peter Molof (Margaret Meade/Hubert), Grace Ng (Jeanie), Benjamin Nguyen, (Woof), Jepoy Ramos (Berger), Ally Reardon (Sheila), Adrienne Walters (Crissy) and Indiia Wilmott (Tribe Ensemble).

Directed by Jon Tracy+, the creative team for Hair also includes choreographer Matthew McCoy, music director Jon Gallo, costume designer Pasquale Spezzano, sound designer Nicholas Rieker and wig designer David Carver-Ford.

Bay Area Musicals! would like to acknowledge its 2015-16 company sponsors: Core7 Realty, Microlease, Performing Arts Academy of Marin, PinkSpots and the Sophia Avant-Wills Charitable Trust.

Hair contains nudity, strong language and mature themes. Parental discretion is highly advised.

Bay Area Musicals! closes out its inaugural 2015-16 season with the thrilling and heart-warming musical, La Cage Aux Folles (July 9, 2016 - July 30, 2016).
