Bay Area Cabaret welcomes Tony and Olivier Award-winner Gavin Creel for his Bay Area Cabaret debut on Sunday, October 14 at 7:30 p.m. in a new concert showcasing "The Great American Songbook."
Gavin Creel dazzled San Francisco audiences as 'Elder Price' in The Book of Mormon, and co-starred as 'Cornelius Hackl' alongside Bette Midler and David Hyde Pierce in the acclaimed Broadway revival of Hello, Dolly! for which he won a Tony Award. Widely recognized as one of the most gifted performers of his generation, Creel will pay homage to composers of the past and present by offering his own interpretation of beloved classics. For this debut concert, he will be accompanied by acclaimed musical director Mary-Mitchell Campbell.
A University of Michigan graduate, Creel made his Broadway debut in Thoroughly Modern Millie, earning his first Tony Award nomination, followed by memorable Broadway performances as 'Jean-Michel' in La Cage Aux Folles, 'Claude' in the 2009 revival of Hair (second Tony Award nomination), 'Stephen Kodaly' in the Roundabout's She Loves Me and 'Bert' in Disney's Mary Poppins. Gavin originated the role of 'Elder Price' in the West End production of The Book of Mormon, for which he received the 2014 Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical. On television, Gavin co-starred with Julie Andrews in ABC's Eloise at the Plaza and Eloise at Christmastime. He has released three original albums. His single, "Noise," raised money and awareness for marriage equality.
