Aurora Theatre Company presents THE SUBMARINE SHOW, a two-person theatrical adventure featuring Slater Penny and Jaron Hollander. This special fall presentation plays for 10 performances only October 14 through 25 at Harry's UpStage, located in the Nell and Jules Dashow Wing at the Aurora Theatre in Berkeley. For tickets (General $28; VIP reserved seating $32; subscribers receive a $2 discount) and information the public can call (510) 843-4822 or visit auroratheatre.org.

Created by and starring Emmy-winner Slater Penney and former Cirque Du Soleil performer Jaron Hollander, this brilliant pantomime physical theater piece, recently voted one of the top ten shows to see at the 2015 New York International Fringe Festival, follows Penney and Hollander as they swim, fly, go slightly insane, and even impersonate their own submarine in this critically acclaimed journey from the ocean to the sky and back. Called "inspired madcap physical comedy... first-class clowns ... a must-see" by the San Francisco Chronicle," "uproarious... unconventional from start to finish," by SF Weekly, and about which the Huffington Post said, "These two artists show a mastery of physical comedy...inspiring," THE SUBMARINE SHOW will amaze and delight audiences of all ages. Penney and Hollander bring their unique comic world to life using only their bodies in this astonishing and delightful two-man show.

Slater Penney graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a BA in Theatre Arts and trained at the Dell'Arte International School of Physical Theatre. He won an Emmy Award in 2001 with Tech TV for body performance for motion capture. When he's not performing, he is an educator at Luna Gymnastics, and teaches both youth and adult circus arts and physical theater at such venues as Berkeley Repertory School of Theatre, Kinetic Arts, Marin Shakespeare Company, Marin Theatre Company, Sacramento State University, San Francisco's Circus Center, Teatro Zinzanni, Trapeze Arts, and UC Davis. In addition to THE SUBMARINE SHOW, Penney currently performs in the original production Le Projet Migration with Christine Germain.

International circus artist and physical actor Jaron Hollander is the co-founder and Artistic Director of the Kinetic Arts Center in Oakland, CA. He has performed professionally for over 30 years with such companies as Cirque Du Soleil, Impact Theatre, Make*A*Circus, and Flynn Creek Circus. An accomplished teacher of physical theater, aerial rope, and a variety of circus skills, Hollander has taught circus arts at such Bay Area institutions as the Clown Conservatory, California Shakespeare Theater, and Berkeley Repertory School of Theatre, as well as Sacramento Theatre Company and Splash Circus.

Located in the Dashow Wing at Aurora Theatre Company, Harry's UpStage is the company's second stage performance space. Longtime Aurora subscriber and supporter Harry Weininger passed away in May 2010; his family, who knew of his dedication to Aurora, wanted to honor him and made a generous donation to Aurora to outfit the Dashow with a new lighting package, curtains, a stage, and furniture. Harry's UpStage is used for live cabaret and second stage events at Aurora.

Following THE SUBMARINE SHOW, Aurora Theatre Company presents Bay Area Premiere of Pulitzer Prize-nominee Amy Freed's THE MONSTER-BUILDER in November, directed by Art Manke. Award-winning Bay Area auteur Mark Jackson returns to Aurora with the World Premiere of his play LITTLE ERIK in January, followed by the West Coast Premiere of Sarah Treem's THE HOW AND THE WHY, directed by Joy Carlin and staged in the company's second stage performance space, Harry's UpStage, located in the Nell and Jules Dashow Wing. The season continues in April with the West Coast Premiere of David Ives' THE HEIR APPARENT directed by Josh Costello. Timothy Near makes her Aurora directing debut with the company's season closer in June, Athol Fugard's modern classic "MASTER HAROLD"... and the boys.

Voted Best Theater Company in 2012 by SF Weekly, Aurora Theatre Company continues to offer challenging, literate, intelligent stage works to the Bay Area, each year increasing its reputation for top-notch theater. Located in the heart of the Downtown Berkeley Arts District, Aurora Theatre Company, declared "one of the best regional theaters around" by 7x7 magazine, has been called "one of the most important regional theaters in the area" and "a must-see midsize company" by the San Francisco Chronicle, while The Wall Street Journal has "nothing but praise for the Aurora." The Contra Costa Times stated "perfection is probably an unattainable ideal in a medium as fluid as live performance, but the Aurora Theatre comes luminously close," while the San Jose Mercury News affirmed Aurora Theatre Company is "arguably the finest small theater in the Bay Area," and the Oakland Tribune stated "it's all about choices, and if you value good theater, choose the Aurora."
