WHAT: Berkeley's acclaimed Aurora Theatre Company presents the final Aurora Script Club meeting of the season with Tennessee Williams' Suddenly, Last Summer. Written in 1958, this story where family secrets shape family destinies is not unlike the family in David Farr and Gísli Örn Gardarsson 2006 adaptation of Metamorphosis, based on Franz Kafka's classic 1915 novella. Aurora Theatre Company Education Director Michael Mansfield hosts this moderated discussion series. The Aurora Script Club was conceived and developed by Aurora Theatre Company Artistic Director Tom Ross. In honor of Tennessee Williams' 100th birthday, all of the Script Club selections for the season are plays by Williams.

Closing Aurora Theatre Company's 19th season is the first professional American production of Metamorphosis. Award-winning Bay Area director, performer, and playwright Mark Jackson returns to Aurora Theatre Company, where he helmed the company's acclaimed productions of Salome and Miss Julie, to put his own unique spin on this landmark work of existential literature. Embodying the isolation of Franz Kafka's unsparing tale, Metamorphosis is a masterful mix of horror and absurdity, telling the story of a traveling salesman's bizarre transformation from man to man-sized insect. Metamorphosis plays June 10 through July 17 at the Aurora Theatre in Berkeley.
