42nd Street Moon Announces 2018-2019 Season; ONCE, DAMES AT SEA, FIORELLO!, and More  Image

San Francisco's 42nd Street Moon (Daren A.C. Carollo and Daniel Thomas, Co-Executive Directors), currently celebrating its 25thAnniversary in continuous operation, has announced the show titles for its upcoming 2018-2019 season. The 2018-2019 season will include THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS (October 3 - 21, 2018), DAMES AT SEA (November 28 - December 16, 2018), FIORELLO! (February 27 - March 17, 2019), 110 IN THE SHADE(April 24 - May 12, 2019), ONCE (June 12 - 30, 2019) and THE OLDEST LIVING CATER WAITER (performances begin June 23, 2019).

"We have been tremendously pleased with the response from audiences and artists alike as we continue to honor the mission of 42nd Street Moon while celebrating the breadth of the musical theatre catalogue," said Co-Executive-Directors Daren A.C. Carollo and Daniel Thomas. "FIORELLO! and 110 IN THE SHADE are both beautiful Golden Age-era musicals that rarely see the light of day anymore; DAMES AT SEA is a perfect pastiche of 1930s musicals that Moon has always excelled at producing;THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS is folksy, high-energy fun; and we are honored and excited at the opportunity to produce the regional premiere of ONCE, whose intimate setting and gorgeous folk-pop score are a perfect fit for the Gateway Theatre."

October 3 - 21, 2018

Irreverent, fun, and surprisingly sentimental, the true story of Texas' Chicken Ranch brothel comes to life in this 1979 country and western musical. Miss Mona's "establishment" has operated for decades with a turned eye from the local Sheriff, entertaining politicians, celebrities and even the local college football teams. But when a television moral crusader sets his sights on shutting down the Ranch, chaos ensues all the way up to the Governor's office! Nominated for seven Tony Awards including Best Musical, THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS is a down-home treat!

Sweet, innocent Ruby arrives in New York with big dreams and lands in the chorus of a new show - but the theatre is about to be torn down! Can sailor-turned-songwriter Dick find a new venue for the show while juggling temperamental diva Mona, frazzled producer Hennesy and starry-eyed ingénue Ruby? Full of vim, verve, and tap-dancing, DAMES AT SEA will charm its way into your heart.

Considered one of the greatest mayors in American history, Fiorello H. La Guardia successfully rose from a crusading lawyer to Congress to running New York City, fighting the corrupt forces of Tammany Hall while never losing his upbeat spirit or pledge to help those less fortunate than him. The story of the larger-than-life, eternally optimistic FIORELLO! won the Tony Award for Best Musical as well as the Pulitzer Prize and was the first major hit for Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock, who went on to write the immortal FIDDLER ON THE ROOF.

Sharp-witted but insecure, rancher's daughter Lizzie is resolving herself to live out life as a spinster until charming stranger Starbuck comes to town with the promise to make it rain, encouraging Lizzie to dream beyond her own view of herself. town Sheriff must deal with the con man as well as coming to terms with his own past. This beautiful show boasts a score by Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones (best known for the longest-running musical in history, THE FANTASTICKS).

42nd Street Moon is honored to bring the Bay Area regional premiere of the Tony winner for Best Musical in 2013, ONCE. Based on the 2007 movie, ONCE tells of an Irish musician who learns to love and dream again through a fateful week with a Czech immigrant. Heart-breakingly romantic but also bursting with joy and humor, ONCEfeatures a lively folk score - the only one to have won an Oscar, Grammy, Tony and Olivier Award - and demonstrates the power that music has to connect us all.
