Sicily - late 80s. This is the story of Giovanni, the perfect embodiment of naivety and passion, of innocence that crosses all barriers of knowledge and ignorance, a simple soul that says what he thinks and believes all that people tell him.
Giovanni represents the strength and the courage of someone who cannot see the world except as a (score) sheet music with notes for a dance. He represents the instinct for life and for survival, beyond sickness and evil.
The world in which the three characters of this play move is low middle class, filled with brutality and instinctual behavior in which actions are not the results of reflection but of bodily urges. This world is made of men who are animals, angels or devils. Violence clashes against naivety. In a sea of brutality, Rosaria, Giovanni’s cousin, represents his whole world: she is a sister, a girl friend, a mother, and a daughter for him.
There’s room for love (in the play), and there’s room for revenge. But everything comes at a price. Giovanni will pay it through the violent and ambiguous eyes and fiery, hot-blooded body of Giuseppe, the dance teacher who was his only love and lover.
“Then I’ll take him by his hand and we’ll jump straight down into the blue sea.. He will think it’s a game. I’ll tell him that we have to race in the water to see who is the faster of the two. Or I will tell him to swim together hand in hand. I live only for him in this world, he is my whole life...”.
