After a sold out run in London, Jake Broder’s critically acclaimed salute to Lord Buckley – the iconic hipster comic who rattled counter culture as Elvis shook up rock is at North Coast Rep March 7th and 8th at 7:30pm. HIS ROYAL HIPNESS LORD BUCKLEY is based on the hip routines of LORD BUCKLEY, a hip comedian from the 40’s who rose to prominence in the 50’s and influenced counter culture in this country. The artists who cite Buckley as a major influence is a who’s who of comedy, music, actors and writers from Jack Kerouac & Bob Dylan to Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, Robin Williams and Johnny Depp. He was a hip ‘aristocrat’ ennobling the audience rather than himself and translating the great stories and histories of the world in to a be-bop infused language he called ‘the hipsemantic’. Frank Sinatra called him “the most sensational comic of our time”.
