Escondido, CA – (January 17, 2020) Patio Playhouse Community Theater presents Fun Home, the critically-acclaimed musical by Lisa Kron and Jeanine Tesori, based on the graphic novel-memoir by Alison Bechdel. The New York Times called it “a beautiful heartbreaker of a musical,” and its many accolades include the 2015 Tony Award for Best Musical, the historic first Tony Award for an all-female writing team (Kron and Tesori) for Best Score, and finalist for the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Inspired by Bechdel’s youth, the show is narrated by grown Alison, whose story parallels her own sexual awakening with the closeted double life of her brilliant and enigmatic father. Moving between past and present with the aid of her younger selves, Small Alison and Medium Alison, our narrator relives her childhood in the Bechdel Funeral Home with her parents and brothers, her own coming-out journey, and the mystery and tragedy of her father’s life. Fun Home is a refreshingly honest, wholly original musical about seeing your parents through grown-up eyes. Note: Fun Home has some adult language and themes.
The cast includes Dani Leandra (Alison), Caitlin Groome (Medium Alison), Emma Delaware (Small Alison), David Guthrie (Bruce), Keri Miller (Helen), Sydney Joyner (Joan), Kevin Phan (Roy/Bobby Jeremy), Lorenzo Olivieri (Christian) Charlie Ashcraft (John), Rory Nolte (u/s Medium Alison and Joan) and Zoe Carnot (u/s Small Alison.)
