Bill Sapsis of Sapsis Rigging will lead the next USITT Presents one-day training with a Rigging for Theatre workshop at the San Diego Civic Theatre on Tuesday, October 1.

The class will cover current entertainment industry practices and equipment, and proper use, inspection, and maintenance of that equipment. Required topics include fall arrest, protection and rescue, but Sapsis's seminars are student-driven, with informal Q-and-A encouraged throughout the day.

Sapsis, president of Philadelphia-based Sapsis Rigging and a leader in rigging safety, has led over 200 safety seminars at some of the nation's most notable performance venues. His October 1 USITT Presents class is made possible by in conjunction with IATSE Local 122, and San Diego Civic Theatres.

The San Diego Civic Theatre is home to the San Diego Opera and Broadway/San Diego, plus local ballet and theatre productions. Its rigging system has 64 sets of counter-weighted lines on steel guides, and four on wire rope guides. Sets can be cleared and flown to a minimum of 65 feet.

USITT Presents is a series of hands-on workshops with industry leaders across the country, deeply discounted as a member benefit -- and open to non-member colleagues at reasonable rates.

The cost for the 9 a.m.-to-6 p.m. Rigging for Theatre class - including box lunch - is just $60 for USITT members and $30 for student/early career members. The cost is $120 and $60 for non-member professionals and students.
