Lamb's Players Theatre is providing youth with two performing arts workshop opportunities this summer at the theatre in Coronado. The workshops are one to two weeks in length and provide children with an opportunity to explore creativity and storytelling in a professional theatre setting. The Introductory Workshop takes place June 22 - 27 and is designed for children who have completed the 3rd - 5th grades. The Advanced Musical Theatre Workshop runs for two weeks, July 6 - 18, and is tailored to 12 - 18 year olds.
The supportive environment of the Introductory Workshops (June 22 - 27) provide young children with exposure to the theatre arts while helping them build confidence in their own ideas and imagination. There will be two sessions of this workshop. The morning session takes place Monday - Friday 9:00am - 12:00pm and Saturday 9:00am - 11:30am. The afternoon session takes place Monday - Friday 1:00pm - 4:00pm and Saturday 12:30pm - 3:00pm. Through creative dramatics, improvisation and writing, each class will work together as an ensemble to develop a final performance with a focus on original work. Each session is limited to 15 students and costs $195 per person.
The Advanced Musical Theatre Workshop (July 6 - 18) is a two-week intensive program focused on professional and college audition preparation. Participants will prepare an audition package unique to their abilities consisting of one classical monologue, one contemporary monologue, one up-tempo song and one ballad. To complete the audition package, instructors will help prepare each student's resume and one headshot will be selected from a series taken by a professional photographer. Members of LPT's Resident Ensemble will teach Master Classes in acting, voice and movement to encourage both individual and ensemble growth. The workshop takes place Monday - Saturday from 10:00am - 3:00pm. Each student's work will be showcased in a final performance on the Lamb's Players Theatre stage in Coronado on Saturday, July 18 at 1:00pm. This intensive workshop costs $600 per student and admittance is by audition only. Former students of this workshop have been accepted to programs such as the Tisch School for the Arts, Syracuse University, USC, UC Irvine and the Boston Conservatory.
Under the direction of Associate Artistic Director
Kerry Meads and Lead Instructor Colleen Kollar Smith, instructors include LPT Resident Ensemble members Season Duffy and Jon Lorenz, along with Patrick J. Duffy, Steve Limones and Charlie Reuter.
