Come summertime, Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA) will open its doors to more than 1,000 children from across the community to experience fun and rewarding arts classes in the school's state-of-the-art facilities. Through the CSArts Academy program,
OCSA expands its class offerings beyond traditional school hours to provide extracurricular arts and academic education to more students, ages 8-15, regardless of whether they are currently enrolled at OCSA. During the summer, Five-Week Arts Camps and One-Week Arts Intensives, in addition to Academic Enrichment Workshops, provide young artists with the opportunity to explore new artistic interests or hone their skills in a specific art form. Students are encouraged to develop their passions in a creative, nurturing environment under the guidance of OCSA's renowned educators and master guest artists.
Morning and afternoon sessions give students the opportunity to select multiple areas of study for a full day of arts engagement. Kids can learn the cha-cha and waltz during ballroom dance, shock their friends with special effects makeup, let their imaginations flourish in creative writing, design costumes for the stage, bake pastries and so much more through the unique array of classes offered.
Lessons focusing on 3D design, animation, character design, digital art, drawing, painting and video game design provide a platform for students to turn their wildest imaginations into real stories and designs. Students can learn the Adobe Creative Suite or translate their ideas into physical form through the mediums of clay, wood, papier mâché and more.
For the aspiring filmmaker, CSArts Academy classes teach fundamental skills needed on both sides of the camera, including acting, cinematography, film and television production, film techniques and stop-motion animation.
Students wanting to get in tune with their musical side can choose from a variety of classes for all levels. "Popular Music" is open to both vocalists and instrumentalists, and encompasses band rehearsals, music theory, songwriting and more. Intensives in jazz, piano and wind instruments provide a rich and challenging environment for artistic growth. Aspiring singers can join a choir during "Sing OC!," a nine-day intensive vocal program that ends with a choral concert.
For students who like variety, survey classes are offered, such as "Musical Theatre Revue," which introduces them to the primary skills of acting, dancing and singing. "Dance Fusion" lays the foundation for a variety of dance styles, such as jazz, lyrical and hip hop. "Mixed Media Visual Arts Exploration" is a new and exciting class that gives students a taste of various media platforms. The "Integrated Arts Exploration" course is modeled after OCSA's own Integrated Arts Conservatory, with the opportunity to experience a new art discipline each week. With more than 50 classes available across arts disciplines, there is an opportunity for every student to learn, love and lean into the arts this summer!
The 2019 CSArts Academy Summer Classes take place Mondays through Fridays, June 24-July 26 (no classes July 4-5).
