Southwestern Yacht Club (SWYC) presents its 48th annual Benefit on the Bay with three events on May 5, June 16 and 17, 2018. The events are open to the public, giving San Diego anglers and sailors the chance to experience the club while also benefiting ElderHelp of San Diego. To date, more than $750,000 has been raised by SWYC and its sponsors through these annual events, ensuring that San Diego seniors can remain independent and live with dignity in their own homes.
"Southwestern Yacht Club members and guests look forward to this event each year and we invite even more of the community to come out to participate," said Commodore Russ Cornelius. "ElderHelp of San Diego has assisted more than 90,000 older San Diegans and their families with a multitude of services, and this is our opportunity to give back."
The fun begins Saturday, May 5 with Southwestern Yacht Club's 48th Annual Bottom-Fishing Tournament and Fish Taco Fry. The event kicks off early with a breakfast buffet, followed by a day of fishing and culminating in a Tournament Awards Banquet, complete with opportunity drawings for great prizes. Regular registration is $75 for adults and $25 for juniors 16 and under. For forms and more information contact SWYC 619-222-0438 or tournament chairs Dan Peterson 619-884-0052 or C.L. Smith 360-220-0711, or visit http://www.southwesternyc.org.
On Saturday, June 16, the Benefit on the Bay: Beacon of Light Fundraiser will feature coastal cuisine including Roy's Paella, a seafood salad bar, salmon and beef carving station, a mashed potato bar, free-flowing champagne and sangria, and creme brulee desserts.
Many prizes are featured at the silent and live auctions, and there will be dancing under the stars to the Jimmy Buffett-inspired island sounds of the Stage 4 Band. Attire is casual, and the public is encouraged to attend. Tickets are $55 per person at the club or by calling 619-222-0438.
The following Sunday, June 17 is the Charity Bay Race on San Diego Bay. Participants will enjoy a 10-mile regatta around San Diego Bay starting at 12 noon, followed by an after-party at 3pm. The $50 entry fee includes two tickets to the dinner, auction, and awards ceremony. Awards will be given for every class, with the overall winner receiving the Jerry Beeman Perpetual Trophy. Sign up in person at the SWYC front desk or cal 619-222-0438.
Many thanks to generous Platinum Sponsors BrandSavants, Jobsite Supply Co., HoyleCohen LLC, and Durham Newton Legal Nurse Consulting, all of who help make these events possible. All proceeds from these events benefit ElderHelp of San Diego, a 501(c)(3) organization, and are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
ElderHelp's mission is to ensure San Diego seniors can remain independent and live with dignity in their own homes. Among its many programs are the Concierge Club, which provides seniors with services such as care coordination and management, grocery shopping, transportation, friendly visits, minor home repairs, home safety inspections, daily check-in calls, budget and check writing assistance, gardening, and more; Seniors-A-Go-Go, providing seniors with escorted, door-through-door transportation; HomeShare, serving those who are looking for affordable housing or have a spare room in their own home and would like someone to move in with them; and referrals to Benefits Counseling including legal, insurance, and tax information.
Southwestern Yacht Club believes in giving back to the community, and Benefit on the Bay is only one of its many humanitarian efforts. SWYC is proud to support a number of community events, including Operation Homefront in support of the troops, Meals on Wheels, the Special Athletes Sailing Program, and the Junior Foundation (providing scholarships for youth sailing programs), among others.
Located on the Point Loma peninsula, in a beautiful, newly renovated facility on San Diego Bay, SWYC was founded in 1925 by visionary yachtsmen looking for ways to enjoy each otherâ€s company and to share their enthusiasm for boating. Since then, the club has developed into a full-service operation with more than 750 members embracing all forms of boating activities within the community and earning a reputation as one of the friendliest clubs to visit.
