Santa Cruz Shakespeare is proud to present Measure for Measure by William Shakespeare. Measure for Measure, produced in partnership with California Shakespeare Theater, is the second play in Santa Cruz Shakespeare's 2017 repertory season with previews July 18 through July 20, and opening on Friday, July 21, 2017, at 8:00 pm. All performances at The Grove at DeLaveaga Park and run through September 2, 2017.

Santa Cruz Shakespeare's production of Measure for Measure delves into the nature of authority and the experience of being governed. Drawing inspiration from contemporary Eastern Europe, subversive music, urban tension, and a deep look into the politics of female sexuality, this performance explodes with the inherent legal, moral, and sexual ambiguities of our age.

In the city of Vienna where a temporary leader, Angelo, strictly enforces laws against sexual activity. Angelo is left in charge after the Duke of Vienna decides to go undercover, pretending to leave the city. The Duke poses as a friar and observes the policy enforcement in his absence. Angelo arrests a man named Claudio for unlawful sexual activity, only later to show his true colors when he offers Claudio's sister the chance to free Claudio through sexual acts.

Measure for Measure features Lindsay Rico as 'Isabella,' Rowan Vickers as 'The Duke,' David Graham Jones as 'Angelo,' and Kevin Matthew Reyes as 'Claudio.' Rounding out the cast are Adam Schroeder, Tristan Cunningham, Annie Worden, and Patty Gallagher

Measure for Measure is directed by Tyne Rafaeli. Scenic design is by Annie Smart, costume design is by Montana Levi Blanco, sound design is by Brandon Wolcott, and lighting design by Kent Dorsey.
