San Diego Musical Theatre announced today the launch of two educational programs as a part of their 2018 season. The new programming includes The Conservatory @ SDMT, with sessions of musical theatre training during the year, and the production of two pre-professional full-scale productions for young actors and students at their new full-time residence in the Horton Grand Theatre.
"SDMT is committed to fostering the next generation of Broadway-caliber musical theatre performers through professional level training and experience," shared new SDMT Director of Education Carolyn Agan. "We reached out to parents and young actors and asked what they most desired in an educational program, and we started building from there."
The Conservatory @ SDMT will focus on providing professional level training for teens, college students, and early career performers with two sessions during the school year, and multiple one-week intensives in the summer. These classes, taught by professional actors and educators, will supply young performers with opportunities to advance their "triple-threat" skills. The courses range from acting and advanced scene study, music theory and voice, and diversified dance classes focused on style, technique, and application.
In the Pre-Professional productions, young performers will work with a variety of Directors, Choreographers, Musicians, and Technical Crew who regularly work on SDMT's main stage productions.
The first pre-professional production in the season will begin with Bring It On, The Musical (March 23 - 25, 2018), followed by Spring Awakening (November 2 - 4, 2018) in the fall. Auditions for Bring It On, The Musical will take place on Monday, December 11, 2017.
Founded in 2006, San Diego Musical Theatre is dedicated to passionately producing and providing musical theatre that ignites the human spirit.
