The San Diego Gay Men's Chorus (SDGMC) announced it will partner with the Veterans Village of San Diego (VVSD) for the chorus' summer show, Feelin' Groovy-Songs of the '60s.

"We partner with a different organization each concert to raise awareness for its work while building bonds between our communities," said Marc Mangiantini, SDGMC Director of Outreach. "Given that our upcoming concert's music is from the Vietnam War era, we wanted to team with the Veterans Village because of their great work helping veterans in need."

The chorus will collect cash donations in the lobby of the Birch North Park Theatre at its three Feelin' Groovy concerts on July 27 and 28. SDGMC members are also holding a two-week men's clothing drive to support VVSD's annual "Stand Down" program. Twenty-five boxes of clothing have already been donated by the University Christian Church in Hillcrest where SDGMC rehearses.

VVSD is a nonprofit that provides treatment to veterans, helping them become self-sustaining and achieve their potential for a meaningful life. Since 1981, they have served 2,000 veterans each year who are homeless or have substance abuse problems with a dedication to "Leave No One Behind."

Past SDGMC outreach efforts have benefited a scholarship program for abused children, a shelter for homeless and low-income women, a youth arts and music program, and programs to help care for people living with HIV/AIDS and cancer.

Feelin' Groovy opens on Saturday, July 27 at 8 p.m. followed by two shows on Sunday, July 28 at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 to $40 and may be purchased at www.sdgmc.org or by calling (877) 296-7664. A $5 discount is available for seniors, students, military and groups of 10 or more. The Birch North Park Theatre is located at 2891 University Avenue in San Diego.

SDGMC is one of the largest and oldest choruses of its type in the world, having entertained audiences for nearly 30 years. Its 150 members embrace a mission of creating a positive musical experience through exciting performances that engage audiences, build community support and provide a dynamic force for social change.
