Lamb's Players Theatre has extended its run of the madcap comedy Room Service through March 29, 2009. Written by Allen Boretz and John Murray, the show is directed by Producing Artistic Director Robert Smyth and plays at Lamb's Players Theatre in Coronado.

With a hilarious portrait of a determined band of theatre artists, Room Service started off the 2009 season on a note of hilarity. Highly acclaimed by audiences and critics alike, Jazz 88 called it "sidesplitting - prepare to howl! Everyone's looking for a little comic relief. This is the place to get it." Jewish World called it, "A zany comedy that moves at hurricane speed!" "Hilariously funny! Lamb's Players nails it," exclaims KUSI-TV.

In Room Service, Broadway producer Gordon Miller is holed up in a hotel with his 22-member cast, rehearsing a new play. The Great Depression is in full swing, but Miller believes that the play is sure to be a hit, if only he can find a financial backer. In the meantime, he must keep his hungry actors fed, the hotel management believing the bill is being paid, his inexperienced playwright in the dark, and the room service waiter thinking he has a role in the production. The show must go on, but will the curtain ever go up? Opening night approaches and no scheme is too crazy for this determined band of show business misfits, as they embark on a wild, fast-paced, hysterical ride that will have audiences rolling in the aisles.

Smyth directs a cast that features Resident Ensemble members David Cochran Heath and Jon Lorenz; LPT Associate Artists Jim Chovick, Jason Heil, Ralph Johnson, Kürt Norby, John Rosen, Lance Arthur Smith and Sarah Zimmerman; and guest artists Dan Amos, Danny Campbell, and Elizabeth Pennington. Scenic design is by Mike Buckley, lighting design is by Nathan Peirson, with costumes by Jeanne Reith. Jon Lorenz is the sound designer, Cecelia Church the properties mistress, Colleen Kollar Smith assistant director, and Maria Mangiavellano the production stage manager.

Room Service plays at Lamb's Players Theatre, located at 1142 Orange Avenue in Coronado. Performances take place Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30pm, Friday at 8:00pm, Saturday at 4:00pm and 8:00pm and Sunday at 2:00pm.

Tickets are $22 - $56 and are available by calling the LPT Box Office at (619) 437-0600 or online at www.lambsplayers.org. For group ticket information call Susan Andrews at (619) 437-6050 ext. 26. Discounts are available to groups, seniors, active-duty military and members of LPT's Under 30 Club.

2009 Season Continues

The season continues with associate artist Mike Buckley's The Hit, opening March 18, 2009. After an acclaimed world premiere at Lamb's Players Theatre last summer, this riotous comedy will have an open-ended run at The Horton Grand Theatre in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter. It's a normal day at Susan and her brother Steve's San Francisco antiques shop. But Susan's just been given life-changing news, and now she's secretly meeting with a man from the Mob. Hold on tight - the day's just beginning. Between crazy antique collectors, potential romance with customers, and visits from East European gangsters - things are about to get wild and business will be anything but usual in Mike Buckley's hilarious romantic comedy about love, antiques, and attempted assassination. Directed by Robert Smyth, the show will play at The Horton Grand Theatre at 444 Fourth Avenue in downtown San Diego. Showtimes are Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30pm, Friday and Saturday at 4:00pm and 8:00pm, and Sundays at 2:00pm.

Next up at Lamb's Players Theatre in Coronado is The Glass Menagerie. One of the great American plays of all time, The Glass Menagerie introduced America to a new writer named Tennessee Williams, and the modern stage was never the same. Williams' spare, poetic story of his own family life etched a striking portrait of four unforgettable characters: the haunted Tom Wingfield, his vivacious, indomitable mother Amanda, his shy sister Laura who spends hours in the world of her fragile glass animal collection, and the charming "Gentleman Caller" who just might change all their fortunes. San Diego's Ensemble Theatre takes on a great ensemble drama - in a production that will move audiences and create fresh awe at the artistry of one of our master playwrights.

Directed by Robert Smyth, the play runs April 10 - May 24, 2009 with a media opening on April 17. Showtimes are Tuesday - Thursday at 7:30pm, Friday at 8:00pm, Saturday at 4:00pm and 8:00pm and Sunday at 2:00pm.

Lamb's Players Theatre is one of San Diego's leading professional theatres. The company produces in two of the region's premier locations: San Diego's vibrant downtown Gaslamp Quarter, and the beautiful island community of Coronado. In the Gaslamp Quarter, Lamb's Players produces longer-running productions at the Horton Grand Theatre, a beautifully intimate 250-seat proscenium theatre located steps away from dozens of restaurants and nightspots, the San Diego Convention Center, and Petco Park. In Coronado, the theatre presents a full subscription season in its beautiful 350-seat theatre, just a short drive over the Bay Bridge from downtown San Diego. The company's Coronado theatre is within walking distance of numerous shops and restaurants, the Coronado beach, and the historic Hotel del Coronado.

San Diego's third largest theatre company, Lamb's Players Theatre is one of only a handful of artist-led Ensemble theatres in the nation. The theatre is committed to the tradition of "repertory" theatre, maintaining both a long-term ensemble of resident actors, designers and directors, and a body of work to which they frequently return. In addition to producing classics and lesser-known gems of the theatre, Lamb's Players is committed to the development of new work. The theatre also has a special interest in exploring spiritual issues for a diverse mainstream audience.
