On Wednesday, June 28, Poway OnStage will be honored as a "Nonprofit of the Year" at the second annual celebration of California Nonprofits Day at the State Capitol in Sacramento.

Poway OnStage has been selected by State Assembly member Brian Maienschein as an exceptional nonprofit organization in California's 77th district. Michael Rennie, President and CEO of Poway OnStage, and Poway OnStage Board Chair Steven DeMatteo will join nearly one hundred other nonprofits from across the state at the annual California Nonprofits Day event, formally recognized by Assembly Concurrent Resolution 54, authored by the chair of the new Assembly Select Committee on the Nonprofit Sector Assemblywoman Monique Limon.

Rennie, says of the award, "Poway OnStage is honored to receive this recognition. We have strived over our 27-year history of serving Poway and North County San Diego to bring the best in performing arts as well as providing much-needed arts education to our local community." Rennie said of being named a Nonprofit of the Year "It is a testament to the many supporters, partners and sponsors who helped Poway OnStage reach this achievement."

"Nonprofit organizations are vitally important to the economy and well-being of California. But too often nonprofits are 'hidden in plain sight.' We are thrilled that the State Assembly has passed a resolution for the second year in a row that puts the spotlight on nonprofits as an economic power that uses that power for the common good. We congratulate all of the award recipients on being honored for the great work they do every day to make California a better place," said Jan Masaoka, CEO of California Association of Nonprofits (CalNonprofits), a statewide alliance of over 10,000 organizations, representing and promoting California's growing nonprofit sector and working to bring the full power of nonprofits to strengthening communities.

Poway OnStage, (a dba of The Poway Center for the Performing Arts Foundation), is a 27-year-old non-profit organization that offers a professional performing arts series, including music, dance, theater, comedy and more by nationally and internationally-renowned performers. Its Arts in Education Initiative programs include a free, one-week musical theater camp; Introduction to Instruments assemblies; partners with the nonprofit Natural High hosting assemblies for teens encouraging them to find their natural alternative to drugs and alcohol; Master Classes with visiting artists; and reduced price youth theater tickets, made possible by GEICO.
