CATCH ME IF YOU CAN's libretto is by Terrence McNally with a theatrical score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. After a tryout in Seattle in 2009, it opened at Broadway'sNeil Simon Theatre in April 2011. The production received four Tony Awards nominations, including one for Best Musical, winning Best Actor in a Musical for Norbert Leo Butz as FBI Agent Carl Hanratty.
The musical follows the story of con artist Frank Abagnale, Jr. A majority of the plot is borrowed from the 2002 film of the same name, which in turn was based on Abagnale's 1980 autobiography. Before his 19th birthday, Frank Abagnale Jr. successfully performed cons worth millions of dollars by posing as a Pan American World Airways pilot, a Georgia doctor, and a Louisiana parish prosecutor. His primary crime was check fraud; he became so skillful that the FBI eventually turned to him for help in catching other check forgers. The film was directed by Steven Spielbergand stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks.
