Visiting drum and dance troupe Street Beat will host a clinic with local dance and drum students on Saturday, October 22nd at 5pm. The clinic will feature a troupe of dance students and a troupe of drummers who will work with the Los Angeles-based Street Beat. Dancers will work with choreographer Ryan Johnson in one area while drummers will work in the main theater with Ben Hansen, Creator, Director, Composer & Drummer for Street Beat. After 45 minutes of instruction, the two groups will come together for a dazzling production number.

The event is free and open to the public. Attendance is limited. To participate, drummers and dancers must RSVP to marketing@powayarts.org with the following information:

Name
Address
Email
Age
Dancer or Percussionist

The event is free and open to the public, but attendance is limited. Doors open at 4:55pm on October 22, 2011.

Following the clinic, Street Beat will appear in an 8pm performance at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts. Based out of LA, Street Beat is a high-energy explosion of urban rhythm, hip hop moves, virtuoso percussion and astonishing acrobatics. Using household items, found objects and just plain junk for drums and percussion, Street Beat merges African, Cuban, Latin, West African and jazz rhythms for a show of remarkable theatricality -- as thrilling to watch as it is to hear. Street Beat features a 6-member company of drummers, musicians and dancers performing what critics call "...an urbanized journey through percussion."
