If the 33rd summer season of Moonlight Stage Productions appears to take on a Broadway appearance that is because three of the four musicals will utilize scenic elements and costumes from New York and the Great White Way. This is one way new Artistic Director Steven Glaudini has put his stamp on his first season being announced today. In the mix of shows slated for the Moonlight Amphitheatre stage this summer are two new titles including the San Diego professional premiere of a recent Mel Brooks Broadway hit.

The first title of the season can't be announced until March, but this musical classic will be an enchanting experience as it features production elements from a recent critically acclaimed Broadway revival. This musical will run June 26-July 13. Next, with sets and costumes from the Madison Square Garden production, Moonlight will present the stage version of what is considered to be the greatest movie musical ever: THE WIZARD OF OZ. The show is being presented July 24-August 10 and is the first time the Moonlight has presented it as an adult production with adult actors taking on the leading roles. Next, the Southern California Professional Premiere of Mel Brooks' YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN takes the stage August 21-September 7. Scenic elements and costumes come from the Broadway production. Featured in the show will be popular Moonlight vets Randall Hickman as The Monster and Douglas Davis as Inspector Kemp. The final show of the season will mark the 20th anniversary of its Broadway debut: THE WHO'S TOMMY, running September 18-October 5. The musical receives a rare full production and honors the show that was born at the La Jolla Playhouse.

"I wanted to accomplish a number of goals during my first season," Artistic Director Steven Glaudini noted. "Shows that are new to the Moonlight is a top priority. This keeps our seasons fresh and the excitement high for our audiences. The visual appeal of our shows is also another priority. Bringing in production elements from Broadway and Madison Square Garden this season will uplift the look of what we put on stage. We are literally bringing Broadway to Vista this summer."
