The Old Globe will host the 2012 Globe Gala on Saturday, July 28 in support of the theater's education and artistic programs. The annual event will feature an exclusive performance by Broadway veteran and Tony Award winner Lea Salonga, known worldwide for her roles in Miss Saigon and Les Misérables. Salonga will star this fall at the Globe in Allegiance – A New American Musical. Globe Board Members Pamela Cesak, Jo Ann Kilty and Vicki Zeiger are Co-Chairs of the 2012 Globe Gala.
The black-tie event will begin with a reception and silent auction in Balboa Park's Alcazar Garden, where guests will have the opportunity to bid on over 250 items. The reception will be followed by Salonga's performance on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. After the performance, dinner and dancing to the music of Impulse will commence on the Globe's Copley Plaza. The Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina will cater the reception and dinner, and valet parking is included in the price of the ticket.
Tickets are $750 (regular seating) and $1,000 (VIP seating) each and include the performance, dinner and dancing. Tables are also available starting at $7,500. Lea Salonga is best known for originating the role of Kim in the West End and Broadway productions of Miss Saigon, winning the Tony, Olivier, Drama Desk and many other awards. She went on to further fame playing Eponine in Les Misérables on Broadway, returned to the show in 2007 as Fantine and reprised the role for the sold-out 25th anniversary concert at London's O2 Arena. Her feature film credits include the singing voice of Princess Jasmine in Aladdin and Fa Mulan in Mulan and Mulan II.
