Due to popular demand, La Jolla Playhouse announces a one-week extension for its upcoming Without Walls (WoW) production of ACCOMPLICE: SAN DIEGO, written by Tom Salamon and Betsy Salamon-Sufott, directed by Tom Salamon, now running March 26 through April 21.
The extension dates include: Tue, April 16, Wed, April 17, Thu, April 18 and Fri, April 19, with performances every 30 minutes from 4:30pm to 7:00pm, as well as Sat, April 20 and Sun, April 21, with performances every 30 minutes from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. The Playhouse has also added performances on Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the entire run, including April 2, 3, 9, 10, with performances every 30 minutes from 4:30pm to 7:00pm.The fourth production in The Playhouse's acclaimed Without Walls (WoW) series, ACCOMPLICE: SAN DIEGO offers an exciting, immersive theatrical experience that uses San Diego's iconic Little Italy district as its backdrop. The show takes its audience on a mysterious journey through various locations to aid and abet a series of shady characters with an impeccably crafted criminal plot. The Huffington Post called ACCOMPLICE "a game you won't want to end," while The New York Times said it's "like being in the middle of the Michael Douglas movie The Game."
"Although all three previous Without Walls productions were extended to meet audience demand, this is the first time that we've added performances before the show has even begun," said Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley. "This proves once again that San Diego audiences have a tremendous appetite for powerful theatrical experiences in unexpected locations."
The experience begins with a mysterious phone call disclosing a secret meeting location. Participants are then sent on a mission, aided by clues and idiosyncratic local characters lurking on street corners, in bars, neighborhood restaurants and out-of-the-way spots. The audience themselves become part of the story as they travel from place to place and clue to clue to propel the story. With San Diego's hip and historic Little Italy district as a backdrop for the action, the show sends audiences on a mission where identifying cast members from civilians becomes a challenging part of the fun, as they unravel the mystery.Tickets to ACCOMPLICE: SAN DIEGO range from $35 - $49 and are available by calling The Playhouse Patron Services Department at (858) 550-1010 or online at LaJollaPlayhouse.org. Please note that this is a 21+ experience (excludes private parties). A few drinks and light bites are included. Each performance accommodates 10 audience members. Group sales are available; but smaller groups and solo participants will be paired with other guests.
Performances begin every half hour, Tuesdays through Fridays from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. Patrons are strongly encouraged to arrive early to find parking. Late participants will not be accommodated. The experience includes a mile of walking with minimal stairs and un-paved pathways. Patrons are advised to wear comfortable walking shoes and to dress appropriately for outdoors. The original production, ACCOMPLICE: NEW YORK, was created by Tom Salamon and his sister, Betsy Salamon-Sufott, in April 2005. Word quickly spread about this captivating theatre experience and shows began to sell out months in advance. In 2007, the team launched a new adventure, ACCOMPLICE: THE VILLAGE, which takes place in New York's Greenwich Village. A few years later, celebrated actor and La Jolla Playhouse veteran, Neil Patrick Harris (Rent; Luck, Pluck and Virtue), discovered a post card for ACCOMPLICE: NEW YORK and attended the show with some of his friends. He immediately fell in love with concept and teamed up with the creators to produce ACCOMPLICE: HOLLYWOOD and ACCOMPLICE: LONDON.Tom Salamon is the co-creator, writer, and director of ACCOMPLICE productions in New York City, Hollywood and London. ACCOMPLICE: NEW YORK, the original production, was created and co-produced with his sister Betsy Salamon-Sufott, and began its run in April 2005. Catching fire as an inventive and unique experience, word of ACCOMPLICE spread and shows began to sell out months in advance. In 2007, they returned with an all new NYC adventure, ACCOMPLICE: THE VILLAGE. In 2009, the team joined forces with co-producer Neil Patrick Harris on a West Coast production, ACCOMPLICE: HOLLYWOOD, followed by ACCOMPLICE: LONDON in 2011 (again co-produced by Neil Patrick Harris, with the addition of London's acclaimed Menier Chocolate Factory). Recently, Tom was engaged by Disney Worldwide to write and develop treatments for use inside Disney Parks. Twitter.com/TomSalamon
Funded by a generous grant from The James Irvine Foundation, Without Walls (WoW) is a La Jolla Playhouse program designed to break the barriers of traditional theatre. Since 2010, The Playhouse has been commissioning and presenting a series of site-specific productions at locations throughout the San Diego community. Underscoring the theatre's mission of providing "unfettered creative opportunities for the leading artists of today and tomorrow," coupled with the idea that The Playhouse is defined by the work it creates - not the space in which it is performed - WoW is designed to offer theatrical experiences that venture beyond the physical confines of The Playhouse's facilities. Building on the excitement and success of its past WoW productions - Susurrus, The Car Plays: San Diego and Sam Bendrix at the Bon Soir, The Playhouse will be hosting its WoW Festival October 3-6, featuring several site-based pieces by artists and companies from around the world.
The James Irvine Foundation is a private, nonprofit grantmaking foundation dedicated to expanding opportunity for the people of California to participate in a vibrant, successful and inclusive society. The Foundation's grantmaking focuses on three program areas: Arts, California Democracy and Youth. Since 1937 the Foundation has provided over $1 billion in grants to more than 3,000 nonprofit organizations throughout California. With about $1.5 billion in assets, the Foundation made grants of $65 million in 2011 for the people of California.
