La Jolla Playhouse Conservatory students, grades 10-12, have just completed the six-week summer program that allows them to hone their skills and develop into the theatre artists of tomorrow. Designed for performers who want to pursue a professional career in theatre, the program offers them the opportunity to work with seasoned theatre professionals, ultimately helping to prepare them for a college theatre program. The 2009 program ran June 29th - August 7th.

"The passion that these students showed for theatre has been inspiring," stated Conservatory Director Kim Walsh. "I am thrilled to see where their determination and talent will take them in the future."

Eight hours a day, five days a week, students from such cities such as Del Mar, Carlsbad, Encinitas, San Diego, Las Vegas and even Baltimore studied acting, text analysis, voice, movement, musical theatre and much more. With a dedicated staff of voice, acting and movement coaches, these students were able to expand their horizons and take their studies to the next level.

Alumni of The Playhouse's Conservatory program have been accepted to prestigious theatre programs at Yale University, New York University, Carnegie Mellon, Emerson College, Julliard and the American Academy of Musical and Dramatic Arts and many others. The enthusiasm for the program has been undeniable among the group of twenty Conservatory participants.

Chelsea Fryer, a Conservatory student from Encinitas stated, "I cannot thank everyone at La Jolla Playhouse's conservatory program enough. This is a beautiful way to dive more into acting and really feel what it is like to be a professional actor. "

"This program has fully opened my eyes as to what is expected of me in the Theatre World," stated Nick Scutti a Conservatory student from Del Mar. "I feel more prepared than ever for college auditions."

"I would highly recommend this program for any aspiring actor or people who are curious about the real acting world. This has changed how I view acting," stated Kiley Giard, a Conservatory student from San Diego.
