Solo performer Jim Loucks brings his Southern storytelling style back to the San Diego Fringe with his new show The Biscuiteater June 23- July 2, 2016 (Diversionary Theatre Black Box, 4545 Park Blvd, San Diego, CA 92116). The Biscuiteater is directed by Lisa Chess.
Based loosely on his childhood, The Biscuiteater is told in Loucks' distinctive Southern storytelling style with songs and humor. Granddaddy was his hero, a big man with a bigger personality, haunted by demons from his days as Chief of Police in small-town Georgia. It is a moving tribute to an imperfect hero.
The Biscuiteater premiered at the FronteraFest in Austin, TX and then traveled to the Oahu Fringe, the Solo Performance Festival at Theatre off Jackson in Seattle, the United Solo Theatre Festival (NYC), SoloFest 2016 at the Whitefire Theatre, as well as a three-week run at the Electric Lodge in Venice, CA.
Loucks has spent the last few years traveling the country with his first show Cemetery Golf, which had successful runs at the United Solo (NYC), SoloFest in Albuquerque, the Fringes in Orlando, San Diego, Hollywood, San Francisco and Boulder and the Cincy Fringe, where he received a CityBeat critic's pick.
"Loucks is an excellent performer, and theatergoers should watch for him in any future shows. The Biscuiteater is recommended for all." Dr Dave Robinson, Central Texas Live Theatre
"Loucks layers recollections from his youth and builds a powerful piece about guns, death, and dignity." Dany Margolies, Arts in LA
"He can etch a memorable character out of six words, a single gesture, an altered stance and a slight change in vocal quality. Critic's Pick." Tom McElfresh, Cincinnati Citybeat
