Three of the southland's most dynamic and daring choreographers will be showcased in Hot Guys Dancing, Diversionary Cabaret's visually stunning and viscerally potent dance series. Yes, there are guys, and yes, they are HOT and yes, they will be dancing up a storm.
Conceived and directed by Michael Mizerany (Miss Kitty's Wild West Revue), Hot Guys Dancing will feature work by Mizerany, Blythe Barton and Khamla Somphanh.
The second installment of the hit dance series will include a restaging of BUMP IN THE ROAD, Mizerany's brazenly audacious and comic dance work about male self-indulgence and gratification. It was originally created in 1996 and won the Lester Horton Dance Award for Outstanding Achievement in Performance. It will be performed by Malashock Dance's Nicholas Strasburg, who steps into the role of the gyrating exhibitionist.
"The piece is a physically challenging one and Strasburg's performance was powerfully danced and also convincingly acted in those moments that required his voyeuristic connections to the audience." Steven Woodruff, DancePlug.
Blythe Barton will premiere a new work that examines the complexity of relationships. Barton's choreography exposes the tension in relationships, illustrating how power shifts of desire, lust, and jealousy develop among a group of men.
Lastly, audience favorite Khamla Somphanh will premiere a new work that delves into the five senses of touch, taste, smell, sight and sounds, however, each dancer lacks one of those vital senses. How will these men communicate, both emotionally and physically?
Dancers: Angel Acuña, Jonathan Arreola, Jacinto Delgado, Bradley R. Lundberg, JT Magee, Shannon Snyder, Nicholas Strasburg, Justin Viernes and David Wornovitzky.
Hot Guys Dancing contains mature themes and male nudity.
