GO GREEN! We strongly encourage all WICKED fans to come downtown early for
their tickets - then go straight to Balboa Park and join the throngs
celebrating Earth Day in our glorious city! WICKED is an integral part of
the recent "Broadway Goes Green" campaign, both on Broadway and on tour,
supporting the show's commitment to reduce individual consumption as well as
the industry's collective carbon footprint. Cast and staff members use
email messaging instead of paper memos, and bags of frozen peas instead of
chemical ice packs for body aches! The producers have actively reviewed and
revised its behind-the-scenes production activity to adopt greener practices
- something very much in keeping with the theme of the musical. Theatres
have replaced their marquee lights with more efficient lighting, production
shops are using environmentally preferable materials and recycling and
re-using scenery; costumes are being washed in cold water where feasible;
and touring shows are offsetting the carbon emissions from transporting
their equipment through investments in renewal energy.
At WICKED, every day is Earth Day! Elphaba says "Don't Miss It!"
