Enrollment is now open for Actors Alliance of San Diego's 2016 Summer Emerging Artist Program for young artist ages 12-19. The three-week full-day program features master classes with professional theater artists, monologue and song preparation, head shots, and rehearsals that culminate in four studio performances of either the musical Cry Baby!, Wonderland High!, or Zombie Prom at Coronado School for the Arts and runs July 25 - August 14, 2016.
"The Emerging Artist Program is unique in that it focuses on the creation process. Our actors will spend time truly learning to create a character, specifically within their age range to ensure they are able to truly understand the obstacles their characters are facing." says Actors Alliance Managing Director, Bryan Stanton. "I'm also thrilled to announce that Coronado School for the Arts has generously donated their space to us for the summer. It's an honor to be at this amazing facility. This is a wonderful opportunity for both organizations and a partnership I look forward to growing in the future."
This year's program will be headed up by SDSU alumnus and MFA in Musical Theatre, Julia Cuppy. Julia as Program Manager and Director will take the young actors through a full production process from audition preparation to final performance. Week one focuses on individual coaching and professional development while weeks two and three give these actors a idea of what a professional rehearsal process is like resulting in a performance that engages the actors in age-appropriate, contemporary material.
Tuition for the Emerging Artist Program is $550 for the three weeks. A $200 non-refundable deposit is due upon acceptance into the program to hold a spot, the remaining balance of $350 is due prior to the first day of class.
