Award-winning actor Ed Asner brings his tour-de-force performance of FDR to Poway Center for the Performing Arts for one night only Saturday, Feb. 20 at 8 p.m.

Based on the Tony-winning Broadway hit "Sunrise at Campobello" by Dore Schary, FDR explores the life of one of America's best-loved presidents and the events and decisions that shaped a nation. The one-man show takes audiences through FDR's White House years, including the Depression, the steps leading up to World War II and the war years. Ed Asner's stunning portrayal shows why this president was known as "that man in the White House," scorned by many and admired by most. It tells of his fireside chats, his controversial packing of the Supreme Court, his discreet but definite affair with Lucy Mercer, and the benevolent dictatorship he called the presidency from 1933 to 1944, making him the first man in history to be elected to four terms.

Ed Asner was recently nominated for a 2010 Grammy for his children's audio book called "Scat" and for a 2009 Emmy for his guest appearance in "CSI: NY". He has won a prestigious seven Emmy Awards for "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and for "Lou Grant" (in addition to 16 Emmy nominations), five Golden Globe Awards and membership in the TV Academy Hall of Fame. In contrast to "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," which was a 30 minute comedy, "Lou Grant" was an hour-long award-winning drama about journalism. Asner's New York City theater credits include "Ivanov," "The Tempest," "Born Yesterday" and "King Henry V;" and his film credits include Oliver Stone's "JFK.
