Flirtation, friendship and mistaken identity make for one of Shakespeare’s most beloved comedies. Rosalind escapes into the forest and adopts the persona of a man to get close to her beloved Orlando. But when he falls for another woman, she must untangle the web of deceptions she has woven to win her true love. As You Like It explores the giddy excitement and dizzying foibles of love and is a perfect summer night under the stars.

Two powerhouse lawyers face off in a small-town with the eyes of an entire nation upon them when a professor is arrested for teaching Charles Darwin’s theories of evolution in his classroom. When the issue goes to trial, the two attorneys must passionately confront questions of faith and science in a heated courtroom. This fictional re-creation of the infamous Scopes Monkey Trial tackles issues that are every bit as relevant today as they were in 1925.

An exciting evening at The Old Globe celebrating San Diego’s rich Hispanic community. At first civility is upheld, but as the conversation goes off track and the rum bottle opens, decorum flies right out the window and leads to a hilarious afternoon of name-calling, tantrums and tears. Yasmina Reza’s Tony Award-winning comedy is a four- way prizefight that is not to be missed.

THE 2012 GLOBE GALA

The 2012 Gala is The Old Globe’s premiere fundraising event in support of the theatre’s education and artistic programs. The black-tie event will begin with a reception and silent auction, where guests will have the opportunity to bid on over 250 items. The reception will be followed by an exclusive, one-hour concert by Broadway veteran and Tony Award winner Lea Salonga, known worldwide for her roles in Miss Saigon and Les Miserables. After the performance, guests will enjoy dinner catered by the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina and dance to the music of Impulse. Pamela Cesak, Jo Ann Kilty and Vicki Zeiger serve as Co-Chairs for this fabulous evening at The Old Globe.

GLOBE GUILDERS FASHION SHOW

The Globe Guilders Fashion Show, one of the premier fashion events in San Diego, will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel. Proceeds benefit the artistic and education programs of The Old Globe, which has over 250,000 theatre admissions and program participants. For the first time on the Celebrating Couture runway, this year’s event will feature world famous designer Monique Lhuillier. The event will include a champagne reception and silent auction followed by a seated luncheon and a fashion show featuring Lhuillier's 2012 Fall Couture Line, presented by Neiman Marcus.

MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING & A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM 2012 SUMMER SHAKESPEARE INTENSIVE FOR TEENS

The Old Globe’s fourth annual Summer Shakespeare Intensive will present its culminating performance of 50-minute versions of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The Shakespeare Intensive is a four-week program for high school students in which they are guided through workshops and rehearsals by actors from the Globe’s professional Shakespeare repertory company and industry professionals.

Cost: $9 for students, $13 for adults.

Allegiance – A New American Musical is an epic story of family, love and patriotism set during the Japanese-American internment of World War II. On the 60th anniversary of Pearl Harbor, a meeting with a young journalist forces WWII veteran Sam Otsuka (television and film icon George Takei) to remember his family’s relocation from their California farm to the Heart Mountain internment camp. As they struggle to adjust to their new home, Young Sam (Broadway favorite Telly Leung) and his sister Kei (Tony Award winner Lea Salonga) find themselves torn between loyalty to their family and allegiance to their country. With its moving score, Allegiance takes audiences on a journey into our nation’s history through the eyes of one American family.

Margie Walsh doesn't expect much from her hand-to-mouth existence in South Boston, where a few lucky rounds of bingo can mean the rent is paid on time. After losing her job at the local dollar store, Margie reaches out for help to an old high school flame who made it out of the neighborhood and discovers that not everyone wants to remember their humble beginnings. Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole) explores whether we can all have the American Dream in this funny and insightful new play.

THEATRE TOTS
Theatre Tots is a series of Saturday morning classes that introduce children ages 4 and 5 to the art of acting through the exploration of children’s literature. Led by an Old Globe Teaching Artist, the students are introduced to the elements of story, voice, movement and imagination through an interactive read-aloud story time. Parents may stay for the entire class or may drop them off and return for the last 20 minutes to watch their children perform a short presentation of the story of the day.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SUMMER CONSERVATORY
Middle school-aged students spend three weeks in the summer in intense acting study with our professional teaching staff plus actors from the summer Shakespeare repertory company. Students delve into scene study, stage combat, theatre games, improvisation, movement and specialty workshops that build their skills as they mature as actors. No audition necessary but a passion for theatre and acting is important for this program.

Cost: $600 ($550 for Globe subscribers). The Middle School Conservatory is now full. To be placed on the waiting list, please contact GlobeLearning@TheOldGlobe.org.

AFTER-CAMP PROGRAM
Children grades 1 - 5 can finish their day of summer camps in Balboa Park with fun theatre games and activities at The Old Globe. After-campers will discover the world of theatre through improvisation, imaginative play, creative dramatics and design in a safe environment, allowing parents extra time to pick up their kids from the Park during the work week.
