Cygnet Theatre announces the postponement of La Cage Aux Folles effective immediately. All performances from March 12 through April 15 have been cancelled. As of now, performances will resume on April 16th.
This decision was made after California Governor Gavin Newsom announced last night, "Non-essential gatherings must be limited to no more than 250 people, while smaller events can proceed only if the organizers can implement social distancing of 6 feet per person."
Artistic Director Sean Murray states, "While we are disappointed, we stand in solidarity with the other performing arts organizations who have taken this step to slow down the spread of the virus (COVID-19) and give our healthcare system more time to do its work."
Patrons who have tickets to any affected performance will be contacted by Cygnet Theatre staff via email or telephone as soon as possible.
Executive Director Bill Schmidt added, "As a nonprofit, Cygnet Theatre relies on the financial support of our most dedicated patrons. Without the revenue from ticket sales, we need those patrons now more than ever. We are asking San Diegans to support our vibrant arts and culture community with a tax-deductible donation to their favorite organizations during this very vulnerable time."
Cygnet will continue to monitor the situation and update its patrons as more announcements are possible.
