In Cygnet's latest production, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, Audrey II promises Seymour she can bring him some instant acclaim. It now appears that the man-hungry plant has done the same for Cygnet. The camp, b-horror musical (brought to life in classic black and white by Artistic Director Sean Murray, Music Director Tim McKnight and Choreographer James Vasquez) is garnering rave reviews and packed houses! To keep the green girl happy, Cygnet has decided to extend its LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS run through Sunday October 2nd. The matinee show will be the final performance.

The musical LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, based on a 1960 low budget, B-horror film of the same name, is hardly what some might consider high-brow art. It was for this very reason Murray felt the story of a nebbish flower shop clerk and his blood-seeking, green cohort would serve up as the perfect dish to audiences seeking delightful summertime fare. The critics agree. Carol Davis from San Diego Jewish World raves, "Shout out another Hosanna or Mazel Tov to the gang at Cygnet! They've gone and done it again!" Bill Eadie at SanDiego.com calls it "A hoot and a holler filled with chutzpa!" And Jeff Smith at the San Diego Reader credits Cygnet Theatre with "keeping the festivities in high gear with a sprightly staging."

The talented cast of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS is receiving high praises across the board, as well. Pam Kragen at the North County Times calls Resident Artist David McBean's vocals for the mean, green Audrey II "marvelous" and "robust" and credits Geno Carr with nearly "steal(ing) the show" as Orin Scrivello. Carol Davis actually titles her review "Suddenly, Melissa..." paying tribute to one of Resident Artist Melissa Fernandes' show-stopping numbers as the lovely heroine Audrey and referring to Fernandes as a "real star in every sense of the word." Jeff Smith comments that "Brandon Joel Maier and Phil Johnson hit all the right notes as Seymour and Mr. Mushnik" and Anne Marie Welsh at the San Diego Union Tribune calls the "Supremes-like chorus" of Urchins played by Cashae Monya, Rhea Elizabeth de Armas, and Heather Paton "terrific." Resident Artist Jacob Caltrider, the Audrey II puppeteer, receives his kudos, too. Kragen celebrates Caltrider for bringing the various incarnations of the ever-growing, technicolor plant "to vivid life." All in all, the word is out that Cygnet's LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS is a show not to be missed!

Cygnet extends its LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS run through Sunday, October 2nd, 2011. The final performance of LITTLE SHOP will be the Sunday, October 2nd, matinee at 2:00pm. (There will be no evening performance.) To accommodate the additional performances, Cygnet has rescheduled the first preview of RICHARD III for Wednesday Oct 19th at 7:30pm. The Press Opening for RICHARD III will still take place on Saturday, October 22nd at 8:00pm.

Tickets can be purchased by visiting Cygnet's website at www.cygnettheatre.com or by calling the box office at 619-337-1525. Tickets can also be purchased in person by visiting Cygnet's box office located at the Old Town Theatre, 4040 Twiggs St. in Old Town San Diego State Historic Park.
