Motivated by Cygnet's collaborative internship program with SDSU, as well as Cygnet Artist graduates and teachers from San Diego area schools, Cygnet Theatre is delighted to announce its newest program, the $10 STUDENT TICKET PROGRAM. Throughout Cygnet's 2011/2012 Season, theatre teachers from local schools are invited to bring their classes to any Cygnet show for just $10 per student ticket. Students must show a valid school ID to receive their $10 ticket, and quantities are limited.

Cygnet Theatre has had a long and close relationship with local theatre teachers and students. Successful internships with then-SDSU-students Sean Fanning and Shirley Pierson led to Resident Designer titles within the company. Multiple Cygnet Resident Artists boast teaching positions at local area schools, including Francis Gercke (USD and Palomar), Peter Herman (SDSU) and George Ye (UCSD and USD). Other teachers/actors who have graced the Cygnet stage include Sherri Allen (MiraCosta), Dana Case (Palomar), Annie Hinton (Palomar), Kim Strassburger (COSA) and Jim Winker (UCSD). Even more impressive is the long list of artists who have graduated from local theatre programs, including Resident Artists Eric Lotze, Manny Fernandes and Amanda Sitton, who all graduated from UCSD.

With its $10 Student Ticket Program, Cygnet seeks to provide teachers the opportunity to expose their students to professional productions at an affordable price. "Access to the arts is very important to us, and we have been looking for ways to make it affordable for students to attend live professional theatre," stated Executive Director Bill Schmidt. "By teaming up with local teachers and offering very affordable tickets, we think we can reach hundreds of students throughout San Diego."

Artistic Director Sean Murray added another motivation behind the student ticket program. "So many of our own talented artists have come out of local theatre programs. It's a nice way to give something back."

Cygnet Theatre invites high school and college theatre teachers to bring their classes to all shows in the 2011/2012 Season for just $10 per student ticket. Discounts are limited to one ticket per student, per performance date, and students must bring their student IDs to pick up their tickets. Other educational opportunities include classroom study guides and post-show forums for groups of 50 or more. An in-classroom Cygnet Artist guest may also be scheduled to discuss the upcoming show for a nominal fee.

Teachers who would like to arrange a student block of tickets should contact Communications and Outreach Director Jessica John Gercke at (619) 574-0059 x 118 or jessica@cygnettheatre.com. (Tickets may be limited based on percent of house sold. 50% of payment due upon reservation of student block. Teachers receive a FREE ticket with their student group booking of 10 or more.)
