Coronado Playhouse continues its 71 st Season with The 39 Steps, from March 24 to April 23, 2017. Hitchcock meets Hilarious in this multi-award- winning stage adaptation of "The Master of Suspense's" murderous classic thriller. Director Desha Crownover (Seussical, 2016) makes a welcome return to Coronado Playhouse to direct this ingenious and entertaining theatrical extravaganza.

4 actors, 139 characters and 100 hilarious minutes await audiences on their journey back to 1930s Britain and meet our hero, the painfully English (and painfully handsome) Richard Hannay. Watching a Music Hall performance by 'Mr. Memory' - an act that shows a man's incredible photographic memory - Mr. Hannay hears off-stage shots being fired. In the terror and confusion that ensues, he finds himself in the clutches of a beautiful woman, Anabella Schmidt, who later reveals herself as a spy. Anabella lets Hannay in on a plot she has uncovered called 'The 39 Steps.' The very next day he finds her murdered in his appartment and so, disguised as a milkman, Hannay escapes London and flees to Scotland to discover what "The 39 Steps" is all about.

Ms. Crownover has assembled a stellar cast with Michael Lundy (A Normal Heart, ion theatre) taking the role of dashing Richard Hannay and Erica Marie Weisz (My Fair Lady, Moonlight Stage Productions) playing all three of his leading ladies; Annabella Schmidt, Pamela and Margaret. Jacob Sampson (Seussical, Coronado Playhouse) and Russell Clements (Fiddler on the Roof, YAT) as the two "clowns" tackle every other role in this roller-coaster odyssey.

The 39 Steps ran in London's West End for 9 years, the 5th longest-running play in the history of London theatre winning numerous awards including the Olivier and What's On Stage awards for Best Comedy. It ran for 771 performances on Broadway, winning both a Tony and a Drama Desk Critics award. It has been translated into over 20 languages with performances running all over the world.

Tickets range from $20 to $27 and are available through Coronado Playhouse's Box Office at (619) 435-4856 or online at www.CoronadoPlayhouse.com.
