Coronado Playhouse presents Moon Over Buffalo, the hilarious farce by comic genius Ken Ludwig (Lend Me A Tenor) the master of old-fashioned slapstick comedy. With a plethora of pratfalls, slamming doors aplenty, and backstage shenanigans, Ken Ludwig's masterpiece is a fast-paced, hilarious screwball comedy in the old tradition, a throwback farce, a valentine to the stage, and the larger-than-life personalities that inhabit the world of the theatre.
In the madcap comedy tradition of Lend Me a Tenor, the hilarious Moon Over Buffalo centers on George and Charlotte Hay, fading stars of the 1950s. At the moment, they're playing Private Lives and Cyrano De Bergerac in rep in Buffalo, New York with five actors. On the brink of a disastrous split-up caused by George's dalliance with a young ingénue, they receive word that they might just have one last shot at stardom: Frank Capra is coming to town to see their matinee, and if he likes what he sees, he might cast them in his movie remake of The Scarlet Pimpernel. Unfortunately for George and Charlotte, everything that could go wrong does go wrong, abetted by a visit from their daughter's clueless fiancé and hilarious uncertainty about which play they're actually performing, caused by Charlotte's deaf, old stage-manager mother who hates every bone in George's body.
Ken Ludwig is a two-time Olivier Award-winning playwright who has written over 26 plays and musicals, including 6 shows on Broadway and 7 in London's West End. His work has been performed in over 30 countries in more than 20 languages and is produced somewhere in the United States and abroad every night of the year.
Coronado Playhouse has assembled an experienced creative team led by director Samuel Young to tell this hilarious story. This marks Young's second directing endeavor at Coronado Playhouse, after last season's The Winter's Tale, by William Shakespeare. He previously performed on the Coronado Playhouse stage in Macbeth, Hamlet, King Charles III, and Much Ado About Nothing. As an actor and director, he has also been seen in numerous productions throughout the county.
Tickets range from $22-$28 and are available through Coronado Playhouse's Box Office at (619) 435-4856 or online at www.CoronadoPlayhouse.com.
