Love isn't always peaceful or perfect, but it is definitely hilarious and heart-warming in this down home southern comedy about a wedding day disaster with the most unlikely happy ending. Dearly Beloved by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten, is the story of a completely dysfunctional but loveable Texas family caught in a whirlwind of gossip, god and gunfire.
The feuding Futrelle sisters are planning a marriage celebration that includes a cantankerous wedding planner, a gaudy 'Gone with the Wind' theme, a snooty mother-in-law, three hundred pounds of slathered barbecue and a missing bride! Rumors are flying all over the small Texas town of Fayro as the cast of characters dredge up resentments and bad memories while trying to settle old scores. This laugh out loud romp down the aisle puts the 'fun' in family dysfunction! The over-the-top comedy is enjoyable for all audiences! Performances run today, August 15 - September 21, 2014.
Coronado Playhouse, the Community's Theatre, is raising awareness and money to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of San Diego during the production. Dearly Beloved runs through September which is National Blood Cancer Awareness Month with a focus on curing these specific cancers including Hodgkin's disease and myeloma. LLS of San Diego helps fund lifesaving research and provides free information and support services to patients and their families. Audiences will be invited to donate money to our latest community partner with cash or check contributions as the hat is passed during each show. Performances the weekend of August 28th-August 31st will honor blood cancer survivors with a special recognition at Saturday night's show of the LLS San Diego 2014 Man and Woman of the Year and two young child survivors of acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Also, come early to any performance and visit the outrageous palm reader, Madame Nelda Lightfoot, played by Tony Bejarano, or during intermission for an entertaining "psychic" reading. Photos with the fortuneteller are also available for a small donation and will be posted on the Coronado Playhouse Facebook page.
