Circle Circle dot dot is pleased to announce their 5th season of original community-inspired productions. The season is titled, "Please Rewind: Looking Back to Move Forward" and all three world-premiere productions featured in the season will reflect this idea by experimenting with period-specified productions or the subject of 'history repeating itself' as a theme.
CCdd will launch the 2016 Season with the 4th edition of their fan-favorite, site-specific and traveling romantic-comedy: "San Diego, I Love You", this year written by Artistic Director
Katherine Harroff and titled San Diego, I Love You (I Love You Not). The piece ties in the theme of the season by exploring the quirky and tumultuous relationship of Isaac and Riley, a couple who's history of breaking up and getting back together is doomed (or not) to repeat itself. This year's adventurous romance will take place in the bustling neighborhood of Ocean Beach and will invite audiences to participate in deciding the the fate of the leading lovers on February 20, 21, 27, & 28.
The second show of the season will take place this summer and will feature a piece harvested from Circle's 2015 Inspired Community Festival titled, The Best Goodbye, written by local spoken word artist and playwright, Gill Sotu. The script explores the world of a handful of teenagers caught up in the early 90's rap and hip-hop music scene who break into the home of a recently deceased recording artist while trying to navigate their difficult and violence-filled worlds. The piece was a stand-out at the festival hosted at Bread & Salt last April, and will make a superb addition to this year's season.
As a small break in full productions, Circle will present their second festival of new works, this year focusing predominantly on the stories of women- written by female playwrights. The festival will be hosted in September and is titled "Community-Inspired Women: A New Play Festival". CCdd will be featuring pieces by company members and will be announcing a "call for submissions" to this festival in late February.
The final production of the 2016 Please Rewind: Looking Back to Move Forward season of new works is a piece from 2015's Wrenegades co-author
Michael Nieto titled, The Courage of Grass, an exploration of stories from the front lines of the human rights struggles of the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and beyond. This multimedia play weaves together the lives of plucky, stubborn, and peaceful men and woman as they struggle to bring about change against overwhelming odds.
