The "Kander and Ebb classic", CHICAGO opens this spring at Chapman University. Chapman Student Organization Productions, CSOP, will bring this sexy, bold, and awe-inspiring favorite to the Chapman campus for a very short engagement.

Directed by MARGOT NEW, with choreography by MOLLY SHAW, and musical direction by JORDAN GAULT, CHICAGO will take the stage in Memorial Hall at Chapman University on April 6th and 7th.

Based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins and script by David Thompson, CHICAGO tells the classic tale of two rival vaudeville murderesses during the prohibition of the roaring 20's. Both Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart, find themselves behind bars in the Cook County Jail. Velma Kelly, a former starlet, serves time in jail for murdering her husband and sister after finding the two entwined in a passionate love affair. While Roxie Hart, an aspiring vaudeville performer, finds herself locked up after murdering her lover. Roxie soon implores the help of Billy Flynn, a big shot lawyer with a flair for the dramatic, to win her case and make her a star. While serving time for their crimes, the two enchanting killers battle it out to see just who can obtain the most fame and recognition, all the while avoiding the noose and getting away with murder.

With a genius and seductive book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, CHICAGO displays only the best of what 1970's Broadway had to offer. Including the classic and incredibly popular hit, "All that Jazz", the sexy and energetic "Cell Block Tango", and the showy display of "Razzle Dazzle". With homage being paid to the Academy award winning film released 2002 directed by Rob Marshall staring Richard Gere, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Renée Zellweger.

This Tony award winning musical will be produced from over five organizations at Chapman University including Chapman On Broadway, The Player's Society, Chapman Dance Alliance, USITT Chapman, and the Coalition of Artistic Students in Theatre (C.A.S.T). Spanning all different kinds of majors and minors, this talented cast of twenty-one students, has come together sharing in one common goal, to tell a fun and beautiful story through a magnificent art form. CHICAGO at Chapman University will give the opportunity to over fifty students to experience theatre first hand and to share their love for the arts with the community.

Performances of CHICAGO can be seen at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 6th and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 7th in Memorial Hall, located on campus at Chapman University.
