A new Stage House will be the star of the 2009 Summer Season at the Moonlight Amphitheatre in Brengle Terrace Park. Moonlight Stage Productions is presenting its 29th summer season at the new facility, which is scheduled for completion in time for the season opening production of "42nd Street" on July 15. The season will also include Kopit and Yeston's "Phantom: The American Musical Sensation" and Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Cats." Each production will run for three weeks, which is a week longer than usual for the Moonlight. Season packages for the 2009 Summer Season are on sale beginning May 1, and single tickets are available beginning May 30 at the VisTix Ticket Office, 600 Eucalyptus Avenue, or by calling (760) 724-2110.
The productions will be mounted in the new Stage House although all the seating will remain as it has been located in the past. The new building will feature a 60-foot fly loft with electronic rigging system for scenery and equipment, backstage restrooms and dressing rooms, rehearsal room, scene assembly/work shop, costume room, sunken orchestra pit, permanent theatrical equipment infrastructure, and sound, lighting, and video equipment packages. The amphitheatre project also includes associated site development and site work, including south entrance restrooms and disabled access upgrades.
Moonlight Artistic Director, Kathy Brombacher, and Managing Director, Dan Kays, are excited about launching the 2009 Summer Season in the new building with the ultimate Broadway musical comedy "42nd Street." Based on the classic 1933 movie musical, "42nd Street" is a delightful backstage story, which features talented tappers and hoofers bringing to life the show's legendary songs like "We're in the Money," Shuffle Off to Buffalo," and "Lullaby of Broadway." The first show of the summer runs July 15 through August 1; Wednesdays through Sundays at 8:00 p.m. until July 26, then Thursday through Saturday at 8:00 p.m. through August 1.
Next up at the Moonlight is Arthur Kopit and Maury Yeston's "Phantom," based on the epic novel "The Phantom of Opera" by Gaston Leroux. "Phantom" is the dark and romantic tale of one man's search for love and beauty in the opulent Paris Opera House and the vast catacombs that lie beneath. The show performs August 12 through 29; Wednesdays through Sundays at 8:00 p.m. until August 23, then Thursday through Saturday at 8:00 p.m. through August 29.
Moonlight's third and final show of the season is "Cats," the longest-running show in Broadway history. The irresistibly whimsical story features an ensemble of fantastically costumed felines, who gather for their annual ball. The musical, set to Andrew Lloyd Webber's playfully eclectic and richly melodic score, will appear onstage from September 9 through 26; Wednesdays through Sundays at 7:30 p.m. until September 20, then Thursday through Saturday at 8:00 p.m. through September 26.
Amphitheatre seating begins 1 hour and 30 minutes prior to show time for pre-show picnics. The Moonlight Amphitheatre is located in Vista's Brengle Terrace Park, 1200 Vale Terrace Drive, Vista, CA 92084. For more information on subscription packages call the VisTix Ticket Office at 760-724-2110.
